Butterfly pose


Title is the Sanskrit word which means butterfly. Title asana is very popularly known as butterfly pose because of the movement of the legs during the posture, that gives the appearance of butterfly flapping its wings. This pose is also known as Bandhakone asana and cobbler pose as it resembles the sitting position of a cobbler at work.

Benefits of the Butterfly pose:
  1. It is good stretch for the inner thighs, knees and groins.
  2. Improves flexibility in the groin and hip region.
  3. Removes fatigue from long hours of walking and standing. 
  4. Gives relief from menstrual discomfort

Limitation:

Those who are suffering from knee pain or any injury do not do this posture. If you have any lower back pain, keep the spine erect and do the posture. Avoid rounding up the spine by bending forward.



How to do butterfly pose:

  • Sit straight on the floor with erect spine and bend your knees by bringing the soles of your feet touching one another as close as possible.
  • Hold your feet tightly with your hands.
  • Make an effort to bring the heels as close to the genitals as possible.
  • Inhale deeply and place your hand on both the knees.
  • While exhaling move your knees and thighs  down towards the floor.
  • Inhale and permit your knees to come back up again.
  • Exhale and repeat the process.
  • Keep breathing normally and start flapping like a butterfly by bringing thighs up and down slowly.
  • Repeat this process fifteen to twenty time.
